Rumor: Apple iPhone OS 4.0 Features Detailed

That’s right, y’all. We’re back at it, and this time we’ve received some exclusive iPhone OS 4.0 details from one of our trusty Apple connects.

Here are some iPhone OS 4.0 features, according to our guy:

• There will be multi-touch gestures OS-wide. (Would make sense for that as the rumored OS for the iTablet is close if not the same as the iPhone)
• “A few new ways” to run applications in the background – multitasking.
• Many graphical and UI changes to make navigating through the OS easier and more efficient. We haven’t had this broken down, but we can only hope for improved notifications, a refreshed homescreen, etc.
• The update will supposedly be available for only the iPhone 3G and 3GS, but will “put them ahead in the smartphone market because it will make them more like full-fledged computers” more than any other phone to date. Everyone is “really excited.”
• The last piece of information is the most vague, but apparently there will be some brand new syncing ability for the contacts and calendar applications.

That’s all we have for now! Who can’t wait for next Wednesday?

Apple January 27th “Come See Our Latest Creation” Event Confirmed

As expected, Apple is holding a “special event” on Jan. 27 to “come see our latest creation,” with invitations being sent out JUST SECONDS AGO. 10am PST, at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco.

Let’s take a closer look at the invite, which is, again, to “come see our latest creation.” Using the word “creation” is telling in both its vagueness and its specificity: It says it’s something new. Apple likes playing with words, too—remember the “something’s in the air” tagline for the event they introduced the MacBook Air, their latest truly new product?

At the same time, it’s interestingly far less weighty than the tagline for the Macworld where Apple introduced the iPhone, which indicated that it would be the beginning of something huge: “The first 30 years were just the beginning.” It’s a light and fluffy blurb, not the one you might expect for something that some people think could be the beginning of a brand new kind kind of personal computing, previously only depicted in movies.

Apple Tablet Rumors Condensed In Handy Visual Guide

We’re just a couple of weeks away from Apple (supposedly) unveiling its tablet, or iSlate if you will, and while we’ve heard every possible rumor under the sun let’s revisit them in this handy visual guide.

There’s a lot of speculation crammed into those four colors, but what do you think we’ll see on January 27th? (If that’s indeed the date). I think a lot of the speculation is fairly close to what we’ll see, but if Apple doesn’t allow multi-carrier support, we’re doomed.

Orange Chief Confirms Apple Tablet With Built-In Webcam

“Oui.” That’s what Stéphane Richard—Orange’s Chief Executive Officer Delegate—answered to French journalist Jean Pierre Elkabbach on radio Europe 1, when asked about the imminent launch of the Apple tablet. He talked about a built-in web cam too:

Jean Pierre Elkabbach: According to Le Point, your partner Apple will launch a Tablet…

Stéphane Richard: Yes.

Jean Pierre Elkabbach: …with a webcam…

Stéphane Richard: Yes.

Jean Pierre Elkabbach: …would Orange users benefit from this?

Stéphane Richard: Sure! They are going to benefit from the web cam, they are going to be able to, in effect, transmit images in real time. We are going to modernize, in essence, the video phone that we knew a few years ago… the size of the resolution, and the quality of the resolution will be better, and it will be available to all in France.

Steve Jobs Crowned “Person of the Decade”

Steve Jobs

Mr Steve Jobs

“Apple CEO Steve Jobs won over 30% of the vote in an online poll published by personal finance and investing news site SmartMoney.com, enough to earn their ‘Person of the Decade’ title by a solid margin over luminaries such as Warren Buffett (17%), Ben Bernanke (13%) and Google founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page (12%). From the article: ‘Certainly, Jobs accomplished more than probably any other CEO since he returned to Apple in the late 1990s: Not only did he revive sales at the failing computer company, he led the stock to a more than 700% increase in value, and forever changed the way people buy and listen to music.’”
